If you’re spending a solid amount of money on perfume, you want to make sure that the scent you love so much hasn’t vanished by the time your mid-morning meeting finally wraps up. To help your fragrance stick around well beyond Happy Hour, use these tips:
Don’t store them in your bathroom
It only makes sense, right? You’re getting ready in the morning and you just reach for your bottle when it’s sitting on the counter. But storing perfume in a place where it gets hot and humid as you shower can break down your fragrance’s potency. Instead, store it in your bedroom, making sure the bottle is kept away from direct sunlight.
Apply Vaseline to skin before spraying the scent
It sounds strange, but doing this helps the fragrance to last longer than if you were just to spray it onto dry skin
Choose your timing carefully
To really lock in your fragrance, apply it after you shower, but prior to getting dressed. The moisture helps to give perfume the staying power you’re after. Plus, this way it won’t tarnish your favorite pieces of jewelry.
Don’t just spray on your neck and wrists
Yes, those are important pulse points, but if you really want the scent to stay on skin, you should also try spritzing your stomach, the backs of your knees, and the back of your neck. These areas of the body radiate heat and help the fragrance to linger longer.
Don’t rub your wrists together after spritzing
If you’ve ever watched someone apply perfume in a movie, they spray the scent on their wrists, and then immediately rub them together. In fact, your mom may have taught you to do this when you were a kid. In reality, this actually rubs the scent’s top notes away and causes the fragrance to fade from your skin faster. Skip this step as you’re applying perfume.
Try layering your perfume
Instead of just spritzing yourself straight from the bottle in the morning and hoping for the best, try using a lotion or a shower gel that also contains your signature fragrance. This layered effect ensures that the scent lasts longer.
Don’t spray perfume directly onto your hair
Yes, it helps it last longer, but it also dries strands out due to the alcohol found in perfume. If you really want your locks to smell delicious, spray the scent onto your brush instead.
