Armed with a handgun, a Jersey City couple robbed a $30 bottle of perfume from a Secaucus clothing store, but they were caught by Jersey City police a short time later, authorities said.

Joseph Cosme, 45, was charged with robbery, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy to commit robbery, Secaucus police Capt. Dennis Miller said. He was also wanted on two outstanding warrants from Jersey City. Teresa Valentin, 43, of Jersey City, identified as Cosme's girlfriend, was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

Secaucus police responded to TJ Maxx at 7:42 p.m. on March 6 on the report of an armed robbery, Miller said. Valentin took a bottle of Michael Kors perfume and as he was leaving the store he "motioned towards his waistband as if he had a handgun and attempted to grab the (handgun) while stating 'you want some of this?'" to the store's loss prevention officer, the criminal complaint said.

The pair fled, but after being notified by Secaucus police of the vehicle involved in the robbery, Jersey City officers stopped the vehicle and held Cosme and Valentin until Secaucus officers arrived. The police report did not say where Cosme and Valentin were stopped by Jersey City police.

In another incident in town, a 56-year-old Rahway man was charged with shoplifting from Home Depot on March 8, Miller said.

The following day, Secaucus police again responded to Home Depot on a call of shoplifting. A 27-year-old Union City man was arrested on an outstanding warrant for $750 from Bellmawr, Miller said.
