A North Devon man has been jailed for a year for stealing aftershave and perfume worth more than £6,000 from a chemist.
Prolific thief Mark Church, 42, broke into the Lloyd’s Pharmacy in Great Torrington and helped himself to the stash of fragrances.
The day before he had broken into the nearby Dartington Crystal shop and stolen Pringle menswear and jewellery from the Edinburgh Woollen Mill concession.
Church, of Trafalgar Drive, admitted two counts of burglary.
Prosecutor Caroline Bolt said in the early hours of October 20 Church smashed a glass door at Dartington Crystal and stole the items, which also included DVDs.
The next day police investigated a smash and grab raid at the chemist. A group of men had been seen running away from the scene and DNA from blood on a display cabinet matched Church.
Stolen goods from both raids were recovered from the defendant’s address. Church did not turn up for his police interview and was arrested in Slough with possession of 2g of cocaine.
The defendant has previous convictions, including one of five years for robbery in 2014.
Judge Geoffrey Mercer QC said Church had a criminal record for a number of serious offences.
“You are now back in prison on licence for those commercial burglaries committed by you in Torrington in October. You are entitled to credit for your guilty pleas.”
