J-Pop Dance Trio Perfume Announces Concerts With Innovative Technology - Billboard

6:29 PM

A documentary called Perfume × TECHNOLOGY 2017 was broadcast Thursday (Dec. 21) on Japan's national public broadcasting network NHK, which took a close look at the effort that goes into coordinating state-of-the-art technology with the J-pop dance trio Perfume's seamless choreography during their innovative concert performances.

Fans will be able to see both in action live next year at the girl group's Perfume × TECHNOLOGY Special Live Show at NHK Hall on March 20 and 21.

Perfume will collaborate with their choreographer and concert director MIKIKO and Rhizomatiks Research, the creative team led by Daito Manabe. Both were involved in the creation of the mesmerizing display presented at the Rio Olympics Tokyo 2020 flag handover ceremony that synchronized light and projected images with the dancers' movements.

Having worked closely with Perfume in the past, for example by programming drones and lasers to follow the trio's dance moves, they have greatly contributed to the evolution of the group's stage performances.

Fans will witness first-hand the next stage of Perfume's performance as they showcase their latest collaboration with leading-edge technology.
