Former Lanvin Designer Alber Elbaz's Next Project: Perfume - Yahoo Movies (blog)

Alber Elbaz, who was ousted from Lanvin in October 2015 after spending 14 years at the fashion house, has found his next act. The designer is partnering with French fragrance expert Frederic Malle on a perfume called Superstitious, releasing March 2017.

"The word 'Superstitious' was the starting point of it all, something we agreed upon immediately. We are both superstitious," Elbaz said in a statement, adding, "It's not about a collaboration, it's about friendship and respect."

Malle and Elbaz worked with perfumer Dominique Ropion to create the Superstitious scent, which was previewed at a ceremony where Elbaz was inducted as an Officier in the Légion D'Honneur in Paris on Monday evening.

"I have always admired Alber for making the women who wear his clothes appear even more beautiful. It is all about them and not about himself," said Malle. "Like Alber's dresses, Superstitious elevates the women that wear it, it empowers them."

This is the 24th scent to be released by Malle since the 2000 launch of Editions de Parfums, which features exclusive fragrances created by the world's greatest perfumers. (The Frederic Malle brand was acquired by Estee Lauder in 2014.) It will also be the second time Malle has collaborated with a fashion designer; he teamed with Dries Van Noten in 2013.

Elbaz has also been staying busy on the fashion front, attending shows for Dior and Valentino during Paris Fashion Week.
