No place does perfume quite like Paris. And just as stocking up on only-in-France pharmacy staples and chocolates is a seasonal ritual for editors and street-style personalities passing through the city, so, too, is shopping its legendary olfactory shrines. Now, right in time for Fashion Week, a trio of the most renowned noses in town have opened new boutiques. From a lab-like nook where visitors can learn about the chemistry of scent to a dizzying architectural experiment lined with infinity mirrors, each of the latest wave of stores is as stimulating to the eyes (and mind) as it is to the nose. Here, three reasons to upgrade your signature scent this fall.
Parle Moi de Parfum
The name means “tell me about perfume,” and that’s exactly what siblings Benjamin and Romain Almairac will do at this petit boutique near the Place des Vosges. A wall of shelves displaying more than 200 raw ingredients allows scent-philes to sniff and discover exactly what goes into each of the eight new eaus in the line, which Grasse-trained perfumer Michel Almairac, the brothers’ father, has created after 45 years spent formulating hit fragrances for Dior, Burberry, and Chloé, among others. Though the cleverly monikered blends—Une Tonne de Roses (A Ton of Roses) and Tomboy Neroli are two highlights—are only available for now in the Paris shop, the website, launching soon, will ship worldwide.

Frédéric Malle
The legendary nose is also known for his adventurous taste in interiors, and his latest outpost in the Marais is no exception. After years spent admiring the conceptual work of architects Dominique Jakob and Brendan MacFarlane—especially Georges, the futuristic restaurant at the Centre Pompidou—Malle tapped the duo to design the new space, his line’s fourth in Paris. Sculptural grids of shelving sprout like stalactites from mirrored walls and ceilings, creating an almost disorienting illusion of infinite space—an experience as transportative as the house’s famously seductive fragrances themselves.

Iunx
Perfumer Olivia Giacobetti—the woman responsible for countless modern classics by Diptyque and L’Artisan Parfumeur, as well as the signature scents of the fashion-world favorite Hotel Costes—first launched her Iunx line of perfumes, candles, and body care in 2003. Until recently, the evocative blends were only available at the Costes. Now the brand’s new Left Bank boutique spotlights the 11 fragrances in an immersive setting that’s both darkly romantic and state-of-the-art. To experience each one, visitors lean over white paper corollas, which light up and release the perfume like flowers from the future.
